I've spoken a lot about my inspiration for this series, but if you're here new I'll give you a quick recap. I was watching an episode of Supernatural, called "Bloodlines" and I adored the concept. It was a backdoor pilot that never got picked up for a full season (even if it really should have been). Then, a few seasons later, I was introduced to the Stine Family in Supernatural, which I also adored too. Based on this, I asked myself:
Should I be writing a series about the Supernatural Mafia?
Mafia romances are a very popular sub genre to write, and when I initially launched the first book in this series, there was a misconception that this was what I was writing too. Knowing I needed to put my unique spin on this series, I leaned heavily on my love for The Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl to inspire the rest of the series. But I also happened to be rewatching the Empire TV show, and I took parts of inspiration from this TV show too. For example, Lucious Lyon rebrands himself into a business man and I wanted to apply that rebrand concept to my mafia families.
Enter the Empire's.
Each family descends from a famous monster, and have taken on different specialty's as a result. When you connect this to the prologue of The Rule of the Damned where we get a glimpse of their ancestors, it shows you how far they've come from the monsters they were created to be. But the more I started writing this series, I knew that there was so much more story to tell than just this original trilogy. I had always hoped to write a universe of series like Cassandra Clare does with the Shadowhunters series, and finally, I had landed on a series where it's possible. The first spin off series I plan to write in this universe is The Titan Syndicate Origins, where we learn more about these ancestors I keep referring to. This would also be my first ever duology! Then, I am playing around with two more series spin off ideas, that should become clearer to me as I finish the original series.
