Why did I end up writing urban fantasy?

I can't speak for every author, but I am pretty confident in saying most of us don't know what we're doing when we start. We just have a story we want to tell, and our core focus is getting it written. At least, I know that's what I did. As an avid fantasy reader, I knew I wanted to write in this genre, but that's about it. At the time, I didn't fully understand the difference between YA and NA. Again, I just wanted to write.

It was only when I started writing my NA series, The Titan Syndicate Saga that I finally had an epiphay; I prefer writing urban fantasy. Coincidentally, 2 of my 3 published series are urban fantasy. It's also worth mentioning that all of my future series ideas are urban fantasy too. Looking back on it now, I can see I was playing to my strengths, but my passion too.

Where did this love come from? While I was born in the late 80's, I grew up in the 90's and early 2000's, right around the time of popular TV series like the original Charmed, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and eventually The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and the Originals. This is where my love started, and remains as these shows have become my comfort series, and it's what's inspired me to turn that love into books. That's not to say I won't delve into other sub genres of fantasy one day, I'm very open to it in fact. But right now, I'm very happy to live in my urban fantasy space, as I still have many stories left to share.
